Your ED has received a complaint from the mother of a 5-year-old girl who remained in your department overnight after attending in the evening with asthma. The mother has complained that her daughter was not reviewed at all overnight by a doctor, resulting in her remaining on hourly salbutamol puffers and significantly delaying her discharge. A preliminary investigation reveals that the patient was not handed over to the night registrar to review. You have arranged a meeting with the mother.
