Case: Obstetric trauma in third trimester

A 29-year-old female who is at 30/40 gestation has been involved in a 60km/hr MVA. She is complaining of lower abdo/pelvic pain. Her vital signs are as follows:

  • RR 22
  • Sats 96% RA
  • HR 128
  • BP 95/60
  • GCS 15

1. List four key features of the obstetric examination in this patient. 4 marks

2. List four other initial investigations you will perform in the ED and provide a justification for each. 4 marks
