Case: Postpartum haemorrhage

A 24-year-old multiparous woman who is 36/40 gestation, presents to triage in labour. She is transferred to the resus room and the nurse tells you the head is on show.

1. Outline four immediate actions during precipitous delivery. 4 marks

The baby is delievered within minutes. The cord is clamped and cut.

2. State four principles of management of the third stage of labour. 4 marks

The placenta is delivered but it appears incomplete and the patient has very heavy PV bleeding. The O+G team are busy in OT.
