Case: Penile amputation

You are the senior medical officer in charge at a tertiary hospital ED. You receive advance notification that an ambulance will be arriving in 15 minutes. The patient is a 27yo male with known schizophrenia who has deliberately severed his own penis with a kitchen knife. The patient is highly agitated and has been combative, requiring police presence. There is an estimated 1-2L blood loss at scene, with the ambulance officer describing the scene as a β€œblood bath”.
