Case: Dog bite hand

A 29-year-old woman presents after sustaining a dog bite to her non-dominant hand, 3 hours prior. She is a masseuse by trade. She has no signiﬁcant past medical history, is on no medications and has no allergies.

2. What is the (1) most important investigation? Provide justification for your answer 1 mark

3. List (4) priorities of your management of this patient 4 marks

4. Give (3) findings on examination or investigation which would require urgent referral to inpatient surgical service. 2 marks

5. There are no indications for inpatient management, so you discharge the patient on oral antibiotics. Prescribe the drug, dose and duration. 1 mark
